We are strong believers in giving young people opportunities for professional development and exposure to entrepreneurship. Our student-focused programs provide real-world experience and serve as an additional resource to our cohort companies.

Our current partner schools include Elon University, Forsyth Country Day School, Forsyth Technical Community College, High Point University, Salem College, Summit School, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University, among others.

Our Student Starts program is an internship program and job creation pipeline that provides talented, easily-accessible help for start-ups and resume-building experience for students, as well as a link to future employment opportunities here in Winston-Salem.

The format of the program includes an annual Student Starts summit bringing point persons from relevant departments at area schools to meet with our start-up founders and learn about possible opportunities. We also participate in area job fairs and STEM events to build awareness and network with potential interns. In addition, we are working on developing a special project conducted during the summer that allows a team of interns to work on a special project for the winner of an internal Winston Starts pitch competition.

Goals of the

Program Include:

Creating a relationship between area schools with eager students and cohort companies within Winston Starts seeking help

Encouraging entrepreneurship in the academic community via special projects, pitch competitions, a shared speaker series, hosting classes, and providing case study opportunities

Providing an apprentice program for underserved, disadvantaged and economically-challenged segments of the community

Meeting the needs of our start-up companies to launch and scale while providing meaningful opportunities to students

Our Art Starts program is to create a collaborative, focused environment across area academic institutions to inspire entrepreneurialism in the arts. The outcome of this project is creative, vibrant murals within our office space.

This program happens annually each summer and is comprised of a group of interns spanning multiple schools and areas of discipline. Artists work with students in management and operations to plan and execute all aspects of the project. As part of the process, mural presentations are made to key stakeholders within our building. Students with an interest in public relations and communications work to create publicity around the mural development and plan and execute the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Goals of the

Program Include:

Provide a platform for local student artists to share their creativity in a collaborative environment

Learning business basics including Project Management, Public Relations and Entrepreneurship

Invite the community to learn about local artists and the businesses housed within our building
